A message from Charli’s family…
Charli Wheeler started at Marjorie McClure in September 1991 at the age of 4 years. Right from the very beginning, her favourite lessons were Art, P.E. and I.C.T. She was extremely lucky to have 3 amazing teachers in these subjects – Mrs. Cox – Mr Wilkins and Mrs Armitage.
Charli made lifelong friends at school, Daniella, Amy and Jade. She never wanted to miss a day of schooling – we even had to book outpatients appointments in school holidays to avoid her missing a day at school!
She loved sports day. She took an active role in all sports, winning the wheelchair slalom twice! She was also very vocal in her support of all her Green team members.
She really enjoyed her two trips to Stoke Mandeville mini games and playing cricket at Lords.
Charli had one of her pieces of Art entered into a competition and, as one of the lucky winners, had her painting displayed at the Hornimans museum.
Whenever she was poorly and we were packing to go into hospital, the first thing we had to pack was her laptop. Once she was settled on the ward her laptop would be plugged in and she would log in to Facebook to keep in contact with all her Facebook friends!
For some children, access to a computer brings difficulties – we would like the money we raise in Charli’s name, to go to helping pupils at Marjorie McClure school access computers through whichever aids they need.
